Happy Publication Day, Karen Furk!

Today is the publication day of Mask of the Gods, the debut novel of author Karen Furk and the first in her Mask Chronicles series. I have been working with Karen for more than two years now on this series and can honestly say I have enjoyed every minute of it. If you like fantasy books, you won’t want to miss this one.

Every time one of my authors launches a new book, I feel as proud as a mum with a newborn – today is no exception.

Many congratulations, Karen

Mini-blurb: Fantasy fiction from debut author Karen Furk with a fresh new twist. Haydan Tournadir’s world has been turned upside down by the arrival of a soul demon. An ancient artefact might be able to help him. His quest to retrieve it might also cost him everything he holds dear.

NaNoWriMo 2018 is (almost) here!

Right, it’s that time, NaNoWriMo 2018 is almost upon us. For those of you not in the know, that stands for National Novel Writing Month. The aim is to write 50,000 words in 30 days. Easy, right? No, but put aside those distractions and do it!

I am busy plotting and sketching out characters and chapter plans ready for the first big write-in tomorrow. Unfortunately I didn’t manage to finish my current book The Proposal by the end of the month, but when your kids are sick, what can you do. It will have to wait until December now.
So, November is all about the new book Just One Day. I shall chart my progress here. Anyone taking part in NaNo wishing to buddy me will find me on soozbuch on the NaNoWriMo site. Good luck everyone!

Commonly Confused Words #25

Lent and leant.
‘I lent my brother a tenner to go to the cinema.’ BUT ‘I leant against the fence and it gave way.’

Tomorrow sees the final CCW post for the week so tune in!

Oh, and if you have any special requests about commonly confused words, please feel free to let me know.

Susan

Commonly Confused Words #24

I will eventually write about something else, but whilst there are so many examples presenting themselves to me on a daily basis, let’s continue with the Commonly Confused Words series!
#24 Sheer and shear
‘It was sheer good fortune that he saw her coming out of the shopping centre.’ AND ‘The cliff was so sheer that not even a mountain goat could descend it.’ BUT ‘He sheared the sheep then sat down for an ice-cold beer.’

Commonly Confused Words #24

It’s Monday and time for Commonly Confused Words #24

Envelop and envelope
‘She allowed him to envelop her in a hug.’ BUT ‘I need an envelope to put my letter in.’ VERB v NOUN!

More tomorrow!

Susan

Commonly Confused Words #23

Last one of the week!

Born and borne
‘I was born in Scotland.’ AND ‘His anger was born out of the belief that his wife had cheated on him.’ BUT ‘I can’t believe he has borne this burden alone.’

More next week and feel free to ask any questions about those that stump you!

Have a great weekend everyone

Susan

#22 Commonly Confused Words series

Bit late in the day, I know, but number #22 in the series – draught and draft (not US).
‘Close the door. A draught’s coming in.’ AND ‘A pint of draught when you’ve got a second, please.’ BUT ‘I’ve been working on the second draft of my novel for what seems like forever.’ AND ‘You need a banker’s draft to pay the solicitor on moving day.’
Back tomorrow for the final one this week!

Susan

Commonly Confused Words #21

It’s Wednesday so I thought I’d do a commonly confused words post beginning with W!
#21 Waver and waiver
‘He appeared to waver over his decision to accompany her on holiday.’ BUT ‘The firm made her sign a waiver limiting liability in case anything went wrong.’

Back tomorrow! It would appear that the list of commonly confused words just continues to grow and grow.

Commonly Confused Words #20

Morning! And it’s on to Commonly Confused Words #20 Cue and queue
‘As an actor I take my cues from the director.’ BUT ‘The queue for the cinema snaked around the block.’ (N.B. for our US friends, a queue is a line!)

You got it! Back tomorrow for #21
